Discover your unique Introvert Advantage, a.k.a. your "Quiet Super Power," and how to leverage it as an artist.
We are observant and thoughtful. Persistent and methodical. We are silent crusaders against small talk, open-office plans and the dreaded groupthink. We are full of ideas and want to share them... if we could just sit and work through them on our own first. Our introverted ways are incredibly powerful, and often undervalued.
PERSONALITY TYPE IS MY (NOW-CERTIFIED) OBSESSION.
In what I've decided to call my third-life crisis (a mid-life crisis, that's only a third of the way through because I guess I will live to be 108?), I dove head-first into all things personality type. I took online quizzes. I read blogs about introverts. I absorbed every word of Susan Cain's Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking.
And I became an MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Certified Practioner. Fancy, no? I went all-in.
Now, when I run out of things to talk about at a party (wait, why am I at a party?), I can talk endlessly to other introverts about being introverted.
I'M AN INFP, MOTHER OF DAUGHTERS, AND MASS CONSUMER OF TACOS.
I love Birkenstocks in the winter, tacos in the car, longs walks (alone) through Costco and eating cookies while my children are sleeping. I do not love impromptu phone calls, empty toilet paper rolls, socks, the word “hustle” or anyone named Caillou.
I live in a small town outside Sacramento, California with Matt, a jack-of-all-trades and Brawny Man doppelgänger; Aurora, a hoarder of sci-fi and fantasy novels; and Kate, a spirited toddler who believes life is better without pants. We also just welcomed baby Charlotte, who enjoys sleeping all day and eating all night.
Henry and Oliver are our two dogs. Henry, pictured above, has been classically trained (by Matt) to sing Jingle Bells. Oliver is a classic introvert who enjoys his alone time and prefers not to be photographed.
I am an INFP. For me, this means I feel all of the feelings but am not very good at sharing them, I am usually reading eleven different books at once, and big ideas are my love language. I am also oddly skilled at making emails sound nicer.
By day, you’ll find me wearing maternity pants longer than I should, complaining about crumbs in my purse, and trying to work in a sea of chaos. By night, I secretly Google the endings to movies before watching them, and when I’m lucky, I read books without pictures.
"Um, that's great and I also love tacos... but how can you help me?" Start with the free quiz below. Then, join us in the free Facebook community, where you can chat with other introverts about being introverted. And tacos.
AND FINALLY, THE PROFESSIONAL BIO.
If I wrote about myself in the third person, it would go something like:
